TV Listeners
We have available a large range of television listeners. The most popular types are:
Cordless headphones
A unit is placed near the television and attaches through a phono socket, headphone socket or a microphone can be placed on the speaker
Advantages:
- Quite cheap to purchase - from £29.99 for a mono headset, upwards for a high quality stereo pair.
- Reasonably portable.
Disadvantages:
- The wearer can not hear environmental sound due to the headphones, does not take advantage of the users own hearing aid amplification.
Loop System
A small unit is attached via the headphone socket or euro connector (30 pin socket at the back of most televisions ) or a microphone (supplied) which attaches to the speaker. A loop of wire like speaker cable is then placed under the carpet around the room.The wearer turns the hearing aid to the 'T' position on the hearing aid and listens through their own hearing aid. The user can then hear the television from anywhere within the loopof wire.
Advantages:
- Users can use own hearing aid and its amplification, does not need to wear headphones.
- Very good amplification available.
Disadvantages:
- Not potable
- Costs around £120 to £150
- Unless hearing aid has a M/T switch, the user cannot hear environmental sounds.
